Easy Chalkboard Haunted Village

Spooky season is officially here! I say officially because we decorated really early this year. We seem to be out of sync with the actual holiday cycle these days, but it’s fine.

My first spooky post for this year is a little haunted village. I know this isn’t the first ever spooky village, but this is my take. I found these little wooden houses on clearance at Michaels over the summer and was immediately inspired to do something out of the ordinary with them. These little houses usually appear in the Target dollar spot (like these) and the dollar store this time of year for Christmas in case you want to paint your own.

First, I covered the houses in two coats of black chalkboard paint for a matte look. I also wanted the option for adding little sayings or windows with chalk later. Maybe I’ll have them spell out “Boo” or “Eek” someday. Then, I added orange glitter to the roofs and doors, and black glitter to the chimneys. Just add a final coat of Modge Podge to seal in the glitter.

To style, I found these cute mini pumpkins at the dollar store. The whole setup looked just as cute in my entryway as it does on my bar cart. It would also look really fun on a fireplace mantel, if I had one in my living room,

Are you a Halloween lover? What are you looking forward to most this year?
