It’s All Tov Cocktail

I’m really excited about this cocktail. I get excited about cocktails quite often, but this one is special for sure. Mostly because it’s delicious, and partly because it’s made with a bottle of whisky that I won by taking second place in the Distillery 291 summer cocktail contest. Yep! It’s true.

The challenge was to create a cocktail using either their unaged whisky or unaged rye. Since the unaged whisky (AKA 291 Fresh) is a little more to my taste, I went with it. I used Fresh, lime juice, luxardo cherry syrup, and simple syrup to create a cocktail called The Immortal Sling. In case you’re wondering what kind of competition I was up against, it was roughly 20 other local craft bartenders. Wow.

So obviously I had to save my prize winnings for a special occasion, which I think Rosh Hashanah covers quite nicely. Since I already knew that the Fresh played well with red fruit, I knew that I was going to have another hit on my hands if I used pomegranate seeds as one of the ingredients. To balance out the drink and keep with the holiday theme, I added honey syrup (made with equal parts honey and warm water). To give the drink a little spicy something in the background, the finishing touch was a dash of Peychaud’s Bitters. L’Chaim!
